Begin your travel early in the morning from Islamabad to Chilas via the Karakoram Highway (KKH). The 8-10 hour journey takes you through the stunning scenery of the Hazara region, passing through places including Abbottabad, Mansehra, and Besham. Enjoy views of the Indus River snaking beside the road, and take short rests at locations like Thakot to see Nanga Parbat. Arrive in Chilas around nightfall, where you can check into a hotel, unwind, and get ready for the adventure tomorrow.
Depart from Chilas in the morning and drive along the KKH till you reach Sazin. To access Darel Valley, turn left and cross the Indus River bridge. The picturesque drive of 3-4 hours takes you past lush flora and steep mountains. When you get to Darel, start exploring the valley's rich history, such as the old Buddhist University ruins in Phichuka Village, which houses the remnants of a once-prominent study center. Discover rock carvings and inscriptions that recount the valley's history, and connect with local Shina-speaking communities to learn about their traditions. Spend the night in a nearby guesthouse or camp under the stars, surrounded by nature.
Leave Darel Valley in the morning for a 2-3 hour drive to Tangir Valley. The drive takes you over tiny mountain roads that provide stunning vistas of steep slopes, forests, and tumbling streams. When you arrive at Tangir, immerse yourself in the valley's charm by visiting the banks of the Tangir River, where you may take a leisurely walk, try fishing, or have a riverside picnic. Visit Tangir National Park to see species such as snow leopards, ibex, and marmots, and hike along nature trails surrounded by the park's lush vegetation. In the evening, pitch a tent or stay in a local guesthouse beside the river for a tranquil night.
Depart Tangir Valley in the morning and return to the KKH, traveling towards Naran via Babusar Pass, which is open throughout the summer months. The 5-6 hour trip provides breathtaking scenery, including a halt at Babusar Top for panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. Continue descending through the verdant Kaghan Valley, arriving in Naran in the afternoon. Spend the rest of the day touring Naran Bazaar, where you may buy gifts and relax at a local café. After a long day of travel, relax and enjoy the fresh mountain breeze.
Return to Islamabad in the morning, passing via the picturesque Kaghan Valley. The 6-7-hour drive allows for breaks at scenic sites like Kiwai Waterfall, where you may admire the flowing waters and take some photos. As you travel down the valley, take in the shifting vistas, from alpine to temperate foothills. Arrive at Islamabad in the late afternoon or early evening, capping up a spectacular journey through Gilgit-Baltistan's valleys.
