Itinerary

Your flight will usually arrive in Islamabad in the afternoon. Our guide(s) will meet you at the airport and arrange your transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is free for participants to relax and unwind after their journey.

Arrive in Gilgit by air or road, and if you're traveling by car, enjoy the scenic drive along the Karakoram Highway. Once in Gilgit, continue your journey to Hunza Valley, a 2-3 hour drive. Upon arrival, check into your accommodation in Karimabad or Altit. In the evening, relax and take in the breathtaking views of Rakaposhi and Ultar Sar peaks. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant before retiring for the night.

Start your day with a trip to Attabad Lake, the venue for the Hunza Winter Festival. Attend the Opening Ceremony, featuring vibrant cultural displays and welcoming activities. Watch thrilling Ice Hockey and Ice Skating tournaments, with teams from across Gilgit-Baltistan, including female athletes. Immerse yourself in local traditions by participating in or observing games like Basra, Pindok, and Baalbut, showcasing the region's rich cultural heritage. In the evening, enjoy captivating cultural performances, such as Risme Tao and Risme Shop, set against the stunning backdrop of the frozen lake. Head back to your hotel for a restful night.

Spend the morning at the festival site, engaging in more winter sports and cheering on the winners of various competitions. Take some time to explore the natural beauty of Attabad Lake, perfect for ice walking, photography, and mingling with the locals. In the afternoon, savor authentic Hunza cuisine at a local restaurant. As evening approaches, enjoy the Grand Cultural Show, which showcases the region’s traditions with Mayfung rites, folk music, and dance performances. The festive atmosphere promises a perfect blend of entertainment and cultural immersion.

Visit the historic Baltit Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site offering stunning valley views, and Altit Fort, known for its unique architecture and historical significance. Both forts provide a glimpse into the region’s rich history and culture. Later, head to Eagle’s Nest, a popular viewpoint offering panoramic views of snow-capped peaks like Ultar Sar, Ladyfinger Peak, and Rakaposhi. Afterward, explore the local bazaar, where you can shop for handmade crafts, Hunza caps, and organic products such as dried apricots and nuts.

Spend the morning at Attabad Lake, enjoying the festival's closing activities, including friendly competitions and cultural displays. In the afternoon, take a short trip to Gulmit Village, known for its vibrant Wakhi culture and stunning views. Visit the Hussaini Suspension Bridge, an iconic and thrilling bridge over the Hunza River, and explore the Gulmit Museum, which showcases relics from the region's history. Enjoy a relaxing tea break with snacks at a nearby guesthouse before heading back to Karimabad.

Take a day trip to Passu, where you'll be greeted by the stunning Passu Cones and the magnificent Passu Glacier. If weather and road conditions allow, continue on to Khunjerab Pass, the world’s highest paved international border crossing at 4,693 meters. Enjoy the snow-covered peaks and vast landscapes along the way. Return to Karimabad in the evening for a farewell meal, accompanied by live folk music in a warm and inviting atmosphere.

After breakfast, drive back to Gilgit and catch your flight back to Islamabad. If time allows before your flight, take the opportunity to explore Gilgit a bit more. Upon arrival in Islamabad, you will be filled with unforgettable memories of the Hunza Winter Festival and the stunning beauty of the region.
