DAY 01: Taxila Tour (01 Day)
Duration: Approximately 8 hours
Morning:
8:00 AM – Depart from Islamabad
- Start your day trip by departing from Islamabad in the morning. Taxila is located around 35 kilometers (22 miles) away, which takes roughly 1 hour by car.
9:00 AM – Taxila Museum
- Arrive at the Taxila Museum, your first stop. This museum houses an impressive collection of artifacts from the ancient Gandhara civilization. Explore the intricate sculptures, coins, pottery, and jewelry that provide insights into the region’s rich history.
10:30 AM – Jaulian Monastery
- Head to the nearby Jaulian Monastery, just 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) from the museum. This ancient Buddhist site features stupas, meditation cells, and intricate carvings. Learn about the religious significance of the site and its architectural marvels.
Lunch:
12:00 PM – Local Restaurant
- Enjoy a leisurely lunch at a local restaurant, savoring Pakistani cuisine. Sample dishes like biryani, seekh kebabs, and naan, offering a taste of authentic flavors.
Afternoon:
1:30 PM – Sirkap Archaeological Site
- Drive approximately 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) to reach the Sirkap archaeological site. Explore the remains of an ancient city that flourished during the time of Alexander the Great. Admire the layout of streets, houses, and marketplaces that reflect the urban planning of its era.
3:00 PM – Mohra Muradu Stupa
- Proceed 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) to the Mohra Muradu Stupa. This stupa showcases intricate carvings and is a serene spot to learn about the significance of stupas in Buddhism. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings and capture memorable photographs.
Late Afternoon:
4:00 PM – Julian Monastery Ruins
- Head back to explore the Julian Monastery ruins, located 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) away. Spend some time wandering through the ancient ruins, imagining life during its heyday.
5:00 PM – Return to Islamabad
- Depart from Taxila and start your journey back to Islamabad. Reflect on the rich history and cultural experiences you’ve encountered throughout the day.
Evening:
6:00 PM – Islamabad
